Where to Buy Weed
Commercial retail stores are not yet active in Germany. Under the CanG law passed in 2024, cannabis is distributed legally through non-commercial Cannabis Social Clubs (Anbauvereine) and home cultivation. Tourists currently have no legal recreational retail channel to purchase THC. Illicit dealers operate in parks like Görlitzer Park and Hasenheide, but their product is highly unsafe, often sprayed with synthetic cannabinoids.
How to Buy & Access
German residents can join local Cannabis Clubs to receive up to 50g of cannabis per month (residency of at least 6 months is required; tourists cannot join). Medical patients (including foreigners with EU prescriptions) can obtain legal cannabis from German pharmacies via private telemedicine clinics. For recreational tourists, carrying up to 25g is legal, but buying it remains in a legislative gray zone.
Average Prices & Quality
Medical cannabis at pharmacies ranges from €5 to €12 per gram. Illicit park-dealer cannabis costs €8 to €10 per gram but is highly discouraged due to contamination risks. Clean, home-grown cannabis shared privately is of high quality and free from additives.
Consumption Tips & Tourist Secrets
You can smoke cannabis in public, but there are strict bans: consumption is prohibited within 100 meters of schools, playgrounds, sports facilities, and youth clubs. It is also banned in pedestrian zones between 07:00 and 20:00. Outside of these zones and hours, public consumption is legal and widely accepted across Berlin.
Local Laws & Penalties
Under the CanG law, adults (18+) may legally possess up to 25g of cannabis in public, and up to 50g in their private residence. Home cultivation of up to 3 flowering plants per adult is permitted. Possessing between 25g and 30g in public is a minor administrative infraction; possessing more than 30g is a criminal offense.
