Cannabis cannot be bought in commercial shops. Instead, it is distributed through private, non-profit 'Cannabis Social Clubs' (Asociaciones Cannábicas). There are over 200 clubs in Barcelona. Never buy from the street promoters on Las Ramblas or the beach who offer to take you to a club — these are illegal gray-market shops that are frequently raided by police and sell low-quality, unsafe products.

To enter a club, you must register as a member. This requires being 18+ (often 21+ in premium clubs), presenting a valid government ID, paying an annual registration fee (usually €20), and having a sponsor (an existing member or club referral). Many clubs allow you to message them on social media or their website in advance to obtain an invitation. Once registered, you acquire your cannabis inside the club using cash.

Quality is among the best in Europe. Club-grown domestic strains cost €6 to €10 per gram. High-end 'exotics' and extract-heavy strains cost €12 to €18 per gram. Genuine imported California flowers can cost €20 to €25+ per gram. Hashish and solventless extracts (rosin) are widely available and of excellent quality, ranging from €15 to €60+ per gram.

You are only legally allowed to consume cannabis inside the private premises of the social club or in your own private home. Public consumption or open carrying of cannabis is strictly illegal.
