Where & How to Buy Weed in Zurich

Recreational THC cannabis (>1% THC) is not legally sold in standard shops. However, low-THC cannabis (<1% THC, high CBD) is fully legal and sold at kiosks, gas stations, and tobacco shops under the name 'CBD weed'. Under the 'Züri Can' pilot project running since 2023, registered Zurich residents can buy high-THC cannabis at designated pharmacies and social clubs, but tourists are excluded.

To buy legal CBD weed (<1% THC), walk into any kiosk or supermarket and buy it over the counter (must be 18+). To access medical THC, patients must obtain a prescription from a Swiss doctor. Recreational tourists have no legal way to buy THC, but carrying small amounts (<10g) is decriminalized.

Legal CBD weed costs CHF 10 to CHF 15 per gram. In the illicit market, high-quality Swiss indoor flower costs CHF 10 to CHF 15 per gram. The quality of both legal CBD and illicit THC in Switzerland is exceptionally high and clean.

Public consumption of low-THC CBD weed is fully legal, but because it smells identical to THC weed, police may test it on the spot. Public consumption of THC weed is illegal and subject to a CHF 100 fine. Consume discreetly in private settings, and never smoke near children, schools, or public transport.

Possession of up to 10 grams of THC cannabis is decriminalized and does not go on your criminal record. If caught carrying under 10g, the police will confiscate the weed and issue a CHF 100 ($110 USD) fine. Driving under the influence of THC is strictly prohibited.
