Medical-Only (Tightened Rules)
Legal with Certification
Cannabis is sold at thousands of licensed dispensaries across Bangkok. Under the revised laws enacted in 2025, dispensaries must operate with a licensed traditional doctor or medical practitioner on staff. Tourists can buy, but purchases must officially be for medical or wellness purposes under medical supervision.
To buy, visit a licensed dispensary. You must present your passport. On-site staff will provide a quick medical consultation to certify your purchase for wellness, stress relief, or sleep aid. Keep the dispensary's receipt and medical certificate with your product as proof of legal acquisition.
Prices range from 200 THB to 800 THB ($6 to $24 USD) per gram, depending on quality. High-end indoor flower (often grown from imported US genetics) is common. Local sun-grown and greenhouse flower is much cheaper, starting at 100 THB per gram.
Public consumption of cannabis is strictly illegal. Smoking in public streets or cafes can lead to public nuisance charges under the Public Health Act. Only consume cannabis inside designated private venues, private residences, or specialized consumption spaces provided by dispensaries that possess a consumption permit.
Public smoking carries penalties of up to 3 months in prison and a fine of up to 25,000 THB ($750 USD). Driving under the influence of THC is strictly illegal. Transporting cannabis out of Thailand on international flights is a serious drug trafficking crime.
